Liz Delaney’s Pub in Coolock, Dublin, was criticised earlier this week for running a ‘Welfare Wednesday’ promotion, but the owners have since released a statement on Facebook.
We first heard about ‘Welfare Wednesday’ yesterday afternoon when a JOE reader sent us in a picture of a poster featuring the promotion in question. Check it out here in case you missed it.
Liz Delaney’s ‘Welfare Wednesday’ was aimed to bring the community together, according to the pub’s official statement on the matter, but it faced stiff opposition from some high profile people including Tánaiste Joan Burton who said it was an ‘irresponsible’ drinks promotion.
The government even went as far as asking Liz Delaney’s to remove the Social Welfare logo from the posters that has been spotted around the Northside Shopping Centre in Coolock.
So here’s what Liz Delaney’s had to say regarding ‘Welfare Wednesday’…
