This doesn’t sound like the kind of watering hole we’d like to frequent.
The appeal of English pub names has always been lost on us; as far as we’re concerned there is precious little to separate your Red Lion from your Queen Vic and your Black Bull, but residents in Truro in Cornwall couldn’t help but have noticed the temporary name change of a well-known pub in the town in recent days.
When local water works closed streets to traffic in Truro, a pub wanted to let regular and potential customers know that it was still open for business and did so by using the sign in the picture below that appeared to give the pub a completely different, and somewhat unfortunate, name altogether.

The sign, of course, is meant to read ‘The Wig and Pen (the name of the pub, named after the local court) is open for business’ but with precious little space between the word ‘pen’ and the word ‘is’, it’s clear what’s being implied.
Unfortunately for immature locals in search of a giddy laugh, the sign has been taken down, even if we’d guess that the pub probably still managed to attract plenty of alternative clientele while it was still in place.
