It’s going to be a looonnnng day…
Oh to be a student, eh? While many of you reading may have been sleepily making your way into work for nine bells this morning, dozens and dozens of college-goers in Galway were making their way into the Hole and the Wall pub for one of the biggest days in the university social calendar.
Or at least it’s one of the biggest days for all students in Galway who hail from the hills of Donegal, who today, as they have done on this day in the last few years, will celebrate Donegal Tuesday by donning their county colours, heading to the pub and well, we hardly need to fill in the rest.
If these pictures from City Taxis Galway are anything to go by, the Donegallians (is that even a collective term for a group of Donegal people?) are making a very early start and look a lot more bright-eyed and bushy-tailed now than they will in a few hours’ time.

While it will no doubt get a bit hectic at times, a Facebook page set up to mark this year’s event was keen to warn those getting involved to look after themselves, posting a message which read: “Paint Galway town green & gold for the day, have a good one, look after yourselves and your friends and please drink responsibly.”
We’d like to echo those sentiments, particularly the last part of the message, while also expressing our sympathy for Donegal footballer Mark McHugh, who, not for the first time, is obviously a little gutted to be missing out.
