One has since been removed.
In the early hours of this morning, representatives of Gimme Shelter Ireland, a group of citizens concerned by the inadequacy of the State’s response to the current homeless crisis, placed four makeshift homeless shelters, or homeless pods, around Dublin city centre.
One of the pods, placed outside the Central Bank, was subsequently removed; below is a picture of the pod that was taken shortly after it was put in place.

Gimme Shelter Ireland, which has no affiliation with any party or candidate, acknowledge that the pods are not a sustainable solution to Ireland’s homeless crisis, but their desire to place them around Dublin city centre is borne out of their frustration and shame at the State’s efforts to robustly address the current housing emergency.
Accompanying a Gimme Shelter press release this morning was a link to the video below, which illustrates a first-hand experience of sleeping rough in Ireland.
