Pics: The weather has taken its toll on the George’s Street Marriage Equality mural

A sad sight

A sad sight.

The wild and unpredictable weather conditions we’ve experienced in the last few days have unfortunately had a telling effect on the Marriage Equality mural on George’s Street.

The mural, which was created by artist Joe Caslin and attracted plenty of acclaim from home and abroad, had been threatened with removal by the Dublin City Council, who claimed that it could be in breach of planning law.

A petition had been started at Change.org and had attracted support from well over 44,000 supporters, but it appears as if that support might be in vain, as the mural was in a state of decay as a result of heavy rain last night.

Such a shame the mural has started to come down itself !! No one took it down . It was made of biodegradable paper.

Caslin told JOE last week that he had been hoping the mural would remain in place until May 22 and that he had received a hugely positive response to his work.

While it’s a shame that the weather has now taken its toll on what was an amazing piece of work, it will certainly have had a lasting impact on everyone who encountered it.
