Cameras from UTV have captured the moment a prisoner escaped from Bishop Street Courthouse in Derry.
According to the UTV Ireland website, Dean Beattie was under police guard at Bishop Street Courthouse in Derry having been charged with a number of serious crimes.
The 22-year-old managed to break free from custody and scale two metal fences before sprinting from Bishop Street into Palace Street in the city.
He remains at large.
The police officer from whom he escaped was unable to give chase and radio’d in to tell headquarters that Beattie had escaped.
Beattie was facing a number of charges related to a burglary on Northland Road in Derry.
These included possessing an imitation firearm and a kitchen knife and assaulting a couple who lived at the property. It is alleged that Beattie stole their mobile phones, their cash and their Christmas presents.
