Planned Luas strikes for this weekend have been called off

Carl Kinsella

The Luas strikes that had been planned for this weekend, April 23 and 24, have been called off in order to facilitate further talks.

The relationship between the Luas drivers has and Transdev has grown only more tense in recent weeks, with the Luas operator putting its staff on protective notice, and warning of deductions in pay if industrial action continues.

Transdev, in a letter to its employees, referenced the possibility that they would recoup the cost of the strikes from the wages of their employees.

SIPTU have argued that any such move by the company would be unlawful under the Payment of Wages Act.

According to the Irish Times, the aim behind the postponement of this weekend’s planned strikes is to allow for talks between both parties to resume.
