The world is waking up the news that Donald Trump is the 45th President of the United States.
We need to prepare for what a Trump Presidency might look like.
So when it comes down to the nitty gritty, what does this man actually want to achieve?
Trump on climate change
The 45th president of the United States has, on multiple occasions, called global warming a hoax.
According to the Financial Times, Trump believes it was “invented” by China to make US manufacturers uncompetitive and he has vowed to ‘cancel’ the Paris climate agreement. This built on a deal President Obama struck with China. He also said he would stop all US payments for UN global warming programmes.
Trump on immigration
The wall around Mexico was not a joke.
Trump has campaigned to build a wall on the Mexican border, has called for a ban on Muslim immigration and promotes the deportation of 11m immigrants. Welcome to America.
Trump on tax
One of the biggest supports for Trump comes from his desire to see tax cuts across the country. He says no American business would pay more than 15% of their profits in tax, compared with a current maximum of 35%.
Trump on healthcare
He has no plan.
Trump on infrastructure
Trump pledges to pursue an “America’s Infrastructure First” policy that supports investments in transportation, clean water, a modern and reliable electricity grid, telecommunications, security infrastructure, and other pressing domestic infrastructure needs.
Trump on weapons
He plans to increase the size of the U.S. Army to 540,000 active duty soldiers. Trump thinks Obama’s deal with Iran, which seeks to prevent the Islamic Republic from attaining nuclear weapons, should be dismantled.
While Obama worked towards his vision of a world without nuclear weapons, Trump has said he would be open to both Japan and South Korea developing nuclear arsenals.
Trump on choice
While Trump won’t criminalise abortion, he has publicly stated that funding it is offensive.
Trump on ISIS
Trump plans to work with “Arab allies and friends in the Middle East” to fight against ISIS. He says America can “defeat the ideology of radical Islamic terrorism just as we won the Cold War.”
Trump on guns
Unwavering support to keep and bear arms. He says he will “get serious about prosecuting violent criminals.”
“Get gang members and drug dealers off the street” and “expand mental health programs keep the violent mentally ill off of our streets.”
Trump on LGBT Rights
Trump thinks same-sex marriage should have been decided by the state, as opposed to the supreme courts.
