“What is wrong with people?” PSNI car attacked with dead cat by criminals

Kate Demolder

The PSNI’s social media team took to Facebook to share the news.

Police have issued advice to criminals after a dead cat was thrown at a police car in central Derry.

The incident happened to the Neighbourhood Policing Team in the Ballyarnett area, on the Glengalliagh Road on Saturday night, where the cat carcass was flung at the passing police car.

The team shared details of the incident on the PSNI Foyle Facebook page.

“ADVICE TO CRIMINAL,” the post begins.

“I may be hanging on to my job by my fingertips after divulging these state secrets but here goes:

“IF YOU WANT TO AVOID POLICE ATTENTION DO NOT THROW A DEAD CAT AT A PASSING POLICE CAR.

“What is wrong with some people that I just had to write that?!?!

”But yes, this happened to us an hour ago and the group seem shocked and surprised that we actually reacted by stopping the Police Car.

”One fella ran off and when we caught him he had 6 bottles of Coors hidden in all his pockets. #CriminalMastermind Annoyingly I didn’t actually see the Carcass Thrower”.

It is understood the cat was thrown at the car by a group of young men, however the police were unable to apprehend the individual who threw the cat.

Responding to comments below the post, PSNI clarified the “young lads” involved didn’t kill the cat, and it was “most certainly knocked down given its location on the grass right beside the curb on the Glengalliagh Road.”
