Those off-license queues on Holy Thursday aren’t about to get any smaller any time soon.
Pubs in Ireland will remain closed on Good Friday of this year despite a campaign to change the legislation in time for the Easter Rising commemorations.
The Licensed Vintners Association & Vintners Federation launched a campaign titled #Abouttime earlier this week in an attempt to remove the ban on the sale of alcohol on Good Friday, with the campaign garnering plenty of support on social media.

Changes to the existing legislation down the line are a possibility, but Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald told Radio One today that it will remain in place in 2016, saying: “I won’t be doing it this year.”
Publicans involved in the campaign have described the legislation as “archaic” and “discriminatory,” while a poll on JOE earlier this week revealed that the majority of our readers would also like to see the ban removed as soon as possible.
Not this year though folks, although you can always try the airport if you’re desperate.
