Risk of flooding returns as cold snap gives way to more bloody rain

Conor Heneghan

Will we ever get a break?

The floods that have plagued parts of the country on and off since before Christmas are set to return this week as the recent cold snap gives way to more heavy rain.

Met Eireann say that while today will remain cold and bright for the most part, the rain will return tonight, with tomorrow set to be wet and windy throughout the country.

Persistent rain and spells of heavy rain in Connacht and Munster in particular will carry the threat of flooding in those areas, with further flooding possible as the heavy rain continues into the night.

Despite threats of hail showers, Wednesday is set to be slightly better, although the cold weather will return with temperatures as low as -3 in places on Wednesday night.

Great news to start off the week.
