The incident occurred on Christmas Eve.
Gardaí in Galway are investigating following a serious road traffic collision that took place on Christmas Eve, Tuesday 24 December.
At approximately 8.45pm on a local road at Carrowmanagh, Oughterard, a 52-year-old female pedestrian was seriously injured when she was struck by a car.
She was removed from the scene by ambulance and is currently in a critical condition at Galway University Hospital.
The driver of the car, a woman in her late 40s, was uninjured.
Gardaí closed off the road in order for forensic collision investigators to conduct an examination but it has since reopened to the public.
Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses, particularly anyone who travelled between Oughterard and Carrowmanagh between approximately 8pm and 9pm on Christmas Eve, to make contact with them.
