Seven Luas stops in Dublin city centre will be out of action for most of this summer

Conor Heneghan

And it has nothing to do with a strike.

Luas red line passengers will have to brace themselves for further disruptions to the service this summer, with seven stops in Dublin city centre set to be out of action for the best part of three months.

All Luas stops from Abbey Street to the Point will be closed from 9pm on Saturday, May 21 until the end of July to facilitate Luas Cross City construction work on O’Connell Street and Marlborough Street.

Luas Cross City will cross the Luas Red Line going north on O’Connell Street and going south on Marlborough Street. These works will install new Luas tracks and power cables at the junction of O’Connell Street and Abbey Street and the junction of Marlborough Street and Abbey Street where the Green Line will cross the Red Line.

Red line services will continue to operate to and from Jervis Street during this period and replacement bus services will be provided from a short walking distance from the closed Luas stops.

Passengers must have a valid Luas ticket or a Leap Card to use the replacement bus service.

For more information, check out the Luas website.

The temporary closure of the red line Luas stops will lead to further disruptions for Luas passengers who have been affected by a series of strikes already this year, with four more planned for this month and the possibility of more to follow in June.
