Sinn Féin, whose TDs have long had a policy of only accepting the average industrial wage, have decided to scrap the policy.
According to the Irish Times, Dublin-based Sinn Féin TDs sought an update of the policy, citing reasons such as the rising cost of living and cost of childcare in Dublin.
Traditionally, all Sinn Féin representatives (including MEPs and Senators) accepted the average industrial wage, which amounts to €43,101.76 per annum.
While it is not yet clear what will replace this policy, the TD salary currently stands at €87,258. Senators earn €65,000 per annum.
As it stands, the remainder of Sinn Féin’s TD pay goes into employing staff or funding constituency offices.
