VIDEO: Six fire crews tackle a burning blaze after arsonists attack Derry school

Paul Moore

No one was injured in the incident that occurred at Holy Child Primary School.

Arsonists attacked the Holy Child Primary School, Creggan last night and at one stage, six fire crews were required to combat the blaze. The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service received a call at 9:20pm last night and promptly dispatched units from Crescent Link, Northland and Strabane Fire Station to the scene.

The fire is being treated as a deliberate act and local police are appealing for witnesses to come forward anonymously via 0800 555 11.

Speaking with Derry Now, Sinn Fein Councillor Kevin Campbell said: “There is shock in the local area that anyone would even contemplate starting a fire at a school. It’s just deplorable and sickening. I would like to thank the work of the Fire Service who dealt with this fire and would appeal to anyone in the community who has any information on who was involved in this incident to bring it forward to the police.”

Here’s footage of the blaze that was extinguished within an hour thanks to the crews at hand.
