There have been six further Covid-related deaths confirmed, as well as 829 new cases of Covid-19.

Five of the deaths occurred in February, and one occurred in January. The median age of those who died was 84 years and the age range was between 75-95 years.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Ireland now stands at 3,687, while the total number of confirmed cases is at 204,397 since the outbreak of the pandemic.

Of the cases notified today:

  • 401 are men / 426 are women
  • 63% are under 45 years of age
  • The median age is 35 years old
  • 386 are in Dublin, 39 are in Meath, 36 are in Cork, 35 are in Kildare, 32 are in Louth and the remaining 301 cases are spread across 20 other counties.

Speaking at Monday’s press briefing, Philip Nolan said that we are now seeing the case numbers increase as a result of testing close contacts of confirmed cases again.

Up to last Friday (5 February), 230,766 doses of vaccine were administered. This accounts for 151,212 first doses and 79,554 second doses.

Earlier on Monday, the Northern Ireland Department of Health reported that a further 296 individuals have tested positive for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.

Sadly, a further 12 deaths have also been reported up north (with three outside the reporting period).
