Peig Sayers might not approve, but move over ‘selfie’, féinphic is the new word in town.

The modern-day term has been given plenty of exposure thanks to celebrities like Rihanna – keep them coming RiRi, no-one is complaining – and now the term is being embraced as Gaeilge.

The Irish language dictionary Focal.ie, which is overseen by Foras na Gaeilge, has also moved with the times and is one of a cupla focail that have been added.

Fón cliste (smart phone), tvuít (tweet), podchraoladh (podcast), vicipéid (Wikipedia) and teilifís réaltachta (reality TV) are other recent additions.

We wonder what the seanachaí would make of it all.
