YouTube star visits Dublin and calls it a ‘s**t city’ in scathing review

The YouTuber had visited Ireland to trace his roots.

YouTube star Spanian has dubbed Dublin a “s**t city” in a new travel vlog.

Based in Sydney in Australia, Spanian’s website describes him as “a former criminal who spent over 12 years inside of boys homes and prisons” before pursuing a rap career.

His YouTube channel also sees him travel the world and “walking through some of its most dangerous and notorious neighbourhoods to see how life really is for people in these places”.

As part of a recent four-part series titled ‘Tracing My Heritage’, Spanian visited Ireland.

Describing himself as 20% Irish, the YouTube star explained to his followers ahead of his journey to the Emerald Isle: “This part is a story that probably so many Australians, New Zealanders, Americans even would be able to identify with.

“My mum’s dad – my grandfather – he is a second-generation Australian. His dad’s dad came from Ireland.

“[My grandfather], like a lot of Australians, when you talk to them, they’ll say to you: ‘I’m Aussie but I’m Irish’.”

His grandfather’s surname was Fitzgerald, with his ancestors said to have come from Limerick.

While in Ireland, Spanian also decided to visit the capital but he was less than impressed.

Conor McGregor’s “pretty classy” pub The Black Forge and the city’s signs featuring Irish translations were singled out for praise.

However, Spanian seemed to take issue with the price of accommodation in Dublin, as well as the city centre’s streets.

In particular, he described one whole area as smelling “like p**s”.

Speaking from his Talbot Street accommodation, he said: “I don’t want to be harsh. How do I say it? I wonder if Dublin was ever good. That’s how I’m going to say it.

“It’s so weird. I went from Belfast genuinely being one of the maddest cities that I’ve ever been to. The vibe of it, I would raise a family there.

“[But] here, it’s yuck. It’s a s**t city, bro, in every aspect of it.

“Sorry, I love Ireland and I’m sure tomorrow, Limerick is going to be mad. But Dublin is one s**t city brother. It was a shock. I can’t believe it’s Ireland.

“I don’t know how long your city’s been like this but that’s yuck.

“But anyway, I’m excited for Limerick, I hope it’s a proper Irish town.”

He continued: “That’s my breakdown, I hate that it’s that harsh, but I got to keep it real.

“I know I’m not going to lose Irish fans over it. Yous probably know this city’s rubbish itself.

“If I looked out this window, I’d never know what country I’m looking at, to be honest. I didn’t expect this from Ireland, it’s something you’d expect when you’re in Rome or somewhere like that.”

It’s worth noting that Spanian seemed much fonder of Limerick. You can watch his vlog below, with the Dublin section starting at around 93 minutes.
