Temperatures to fall below zero this weekend as hail and showers expected

“Cool and changeable” weather is also to be expected for the first half of next week.

It seems like our few days of sunshine were definitely not a sign of things to come, as temperatures are set to plummet this weekend once more.

Temperatures of -1 degrees have been forecast by Met Éireann for Friday night, with the cool spell expected to last throughout the whole weekend.

According to the national forecaster, Friday will bring a lot of rain to the country, which is expected to filter out throughout the day.

“Rain across Munster and south-Leinster will gradually break up into more showery conditions this morning as brighter weather extends from the north of the country,” the forecast reads.

“Showers this afternoon and evening will be heavy but well scattered with good sunshine when dry. Cool with highs of 9 to 12 degrees in moderate northeast breezes.”

Grass frosts are to be expected in rural areas along with sunny spells, showers, hail and a risk of thunder.

As for Saturday, good sunshine is expected in the morning, with scattered heavy showers again by the afternoon along with highs of nine to 13 degrees in light northeast breezes.

Lows of zero to 3 degrees are expected on Saturday night, with sharp grass frost and possibly some mist and shallow fog around dawn.

Sunday is also set to be cool, with showers, hail and a risk of thunder also forecast.

However, Monday brings better news as, despite being a cool day, sunny spells and “very few showers” are forecast.

Beggars can’t be choosers…
