The average price of monthly rent in Ireland is pretty damn high

You probably already knew but...

Conor Heneghan

Higher than all but two other countries in the EU, in fact.

Complaining about the price of rent, much like the weather, is something of a national pastime in Ireland, but it would appear as if we’re justfied in doing so if a recent Eurostat study is to be believed.

The study found that only two countries in the entire European Union, the UK and Luxembourg, pay higher monthly rates of rent than we do in this country and that it is significantly more expensive to rent here than it is in the majority of EU countries.

rentalchart

Irish people pay an average of €679 a month in rent, which compares favourably to the UK (€902) and Luxembourg (€804), but not so favourably with the likes of major European countries such as Germany (€600) and France (€598).

This news hardly comes as a surprise, but being reminded of where we stand might cause the blood to angry up just a little bit…
