As honest as the day is long.
Teresa Lee and Paula Bollinska work in An Pota Caife on Shop Street in Galway and we reckon they’re shoe-ins for a joint Employee of the Month award.
The two waitresses’ honesty ensured someone a little less well-off has had a change of fortune in more ways that one, according to a report in the Galway Advertiser.
A man visited their cafe three months ago and accidentally left behind his entire disability allowance and never returned to see if he’d lost it there. Disaster.
The two girls check the CCTV footage and got a good look at the man but they didn’t recognise him as he wasn’t a regular in their place.
However, they were at work this week when all of a sudden a vaguely familiar face appeared in the cafe.
Teresa explained what happened to the Galway Advertiser, “When he came in yesterday, we knew immediately it was him as we recognised him from looking back at the camera.
“What also sparked our memory was he had his money in a little plastic bag similar to the one that had been left behind. He also asked for a cone which he had done the last time also”
It was obviously a significant amount of money and Teresa described the man’s reaction, “Oh he was totally shocked.
“Firstly that we recognised him and also he could not believe we still had the money. He was delighted to get the money back because there was a nice bit in it. He was very, very, thankful.”
Fair play to them.
Hat-tip to Galway Advertiser.
