Colm Boohig

The charges include second-degree murder and voluntary manslaughter.

Jason Corbett’s wife Molly Martens Corbett and his father-in-law Thomas Michael Martens have been charged with his death.

The news was confirmed late last night by Davidson County Attorneys. Jason, originally from Limerick city, was found dead on August 2 at his home in Panther Creek, Wallburg in North Carolina.

Local police were called to his residence in the early hours of August 2, and it is believed that the 39-year-old died from fatal injuries to the head.

Speaking to The Irish Times, Davidson County District Attorney Garry Frank said that both Molly Martens Corbett and Thomas Michael Martens will be formally charged in the next few days by Davidson County Superior Court.

Jason’s death caused a custody battle for his children from his first marriage between Molly Martens Corbett, Jason’s sister Tracey Lynch (who was named as the childrens’ guardian after the death of Jason’s first wife) and her husband David.

Molly Martens Corbett lost this custody battle.

Jason Corbett was buried in Limerick, alongside his first wife.
