There could be a big problem with the proposed €320 million runway at Dublin Airport

Not everybody is pleased about the plans for a new runway at Dublin Airport.

Ireland’s Green Party have cast a €320 million shadow over the proposed new runway at Dublin Airport, saying that it may contravene a recent climate law.

People had been very pleased about the announcement, not least because of the 1200 jobs it is likely to create – as well as allowing for new routes to operate out of the airport.

According to Newstalk,  the Greens have said the expansion may be out of line with Section 15 of the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development Act.

“The plan for a third runway is based on predictions for passenger numbers which are incompatible with the 1.5 degree global warming target agreed in Paris.”

With a second general election potentially on the horizon, it’d be very brave of the Greens to make this a big issue…
