There is one Irishman on a leaked list of ISIS jihadists

Carl Kinsella

Documents from an ISIS training camp that have been leaked to Sky News have revealed that there is at least one Islamic State jihadist who identifies as Irish.

The 43-year-old man, who is using a nom de guerre – Abu Hamza al Muhajir – identified himself on a standardised ISIS as ‘Algerian-Irish.’

The man claimed that he was proficient in English and French, as well as possessing “understanding of explosives and state media”, according to The Irish Times.

Al Muhajir was the only fighter on the list to have referenced Ireland in his form. Prevalent sources of Islamic State fighters are France, Albania, Germany and the United Kingdom.

It is unclear where in Ireland Muhajir was based, or what name he was known by while in Ireland.

This news comes after Irishman Joshua Molloy was released from custody in Iraq, having entered the country through Syria while fighting ISIS as part of the Syrian Christian Battalion.
