These are the most expensive and least expensive areas to rent a house in Ireland

Conor Heneghan

No real surprises here.

Yesterday’s rental report from Daft.ie threw up a number of interesting facts about the rental market in Ireland today and generally confirmed what most of us already knew; it can be bloody expensive to rent in this country.

What may have escaped attention was the specific areas in Ireland where it is most expensive and least expensive to rent and though it’s not really a surprise, the gap between the most expensive and least expensive areas is eye-watering to say the least.

The top five most expensive areas in the country to rent are, surprise, surprise, all in Dublin, while the least expensive areas to rent are in the west and the midlands, with Leitrim proving to be the cheapest of all.

Interestingly, the report also highlighted that the gap between the most expensive areas and least expensive areas is growing, with average rents in Dublin 2 now 3.7 times what they are in Leitrim, a significant increase on the 2010 figure, when rents in Dublin 2 were 2.8 times what they were in Leitrim at the time.

Food for thought for anyone thinking of entering the rental market anytime soon.
