As many as 160,000 people across the country could be in line for a nice few quid after they were mis-sold credit insurance.
Both card providers and banks are sending out letters to customers who took out credit card protection policies.
The Irish Independent report that Ulster Bank, MBNA (now Avantcard) and Bank of Ireland all sold the policies which have been called into question, and around 160,000 people may now receive up to €300.
A Central Bank spokeswoman said: “The product included a small element of cover that customers did not need and could not claim on.”
Policies going back as far as August 1st 2006 will be under review.
The Independent report that the policies were sold on the Irish market from the 1990s by Homecare Insurance Ltd, a subsidiary of the British CPP group.
