Tweet of the Day: An observation shared by many after Brede Hangeland’s red card

Brede Hangeland was controversially sent off for a late tackle earlier today, but the ‘victim’ of his challenge is no stranger to seeing red himself.

The terms ’50-50 tackle’, ‘red card’ and ‘Lee Cattermole’ have appeared in the same sentence far more often than Sunderland fans would like, so if you knew beforehand that the respective captains in the Fulham v Sunderland game were going to go into a full-blooded challenge today and one of them was going to get sent off, the smart money would be on Cattermole.

Instead, it was Fulham captain Brede Hangeland who was given his marching orders for what was deemed to be a dangerous tackle on the Sunderland skipper, prompting the following observation from Sunday Independent football hack Dion Fanning, one that most football fans would probably agree with.

Harsh maybe, but when you consider that Cattermole is only 24 and has already been sent off seven times in his career to date, it seems a pretty fair comment to make after all.
