Tweet of the Day: Boom. Rory McIlroy’s a very happy man right about now.

While we can’t say we’re a fan of the Piers Morgan style ‘boom’ in his tweet, Rory McIlroy has every right to be pleased with himself right now.

While we can’t say we’re a fan of the Piers Morgan style ‘boom’ in his tweet, Rory McIlroy has every right to be pleased with himself right now.

If the Mayans are indeed correct and this year proves to be our last on Earth, then Rory McIlroy couldn’t possibly have spent his final days any better than he has over the past 11 months.

The 23-year old capped his annus mirabilis by claiming the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai today, finishing with five birdies for a 66 and -23 total to win the tournament by two shots ahead of Justin Rose.

Combined with the prize for topping the Race to Dubai, the world number one earned just a few hundred thousand pounds short of £1.5 million today and it was no wonder he was pleased when he sent out the following tweet just a short while ago.

Not bad for day’s work is it?

In a year in which he won his second major and cemented his position as the biggest thing in golf since Tiger Woods, today really was the icing on the cake and the best thing is that he is showing no signs of slowing down yet.

Congratulations Rory and enjoy the celebrations and the time off; you’ve earned it.
