It’s the morning after the night before and Irish fans are still wondering what the hell happened last night. Didi Hamann didn’t beat around the bush when offering his assessment.

Hamann was working pitchside for RTE last night and although he must have been delighted by the feast of football served up by his compatriots, he seemed more than a little embarrassed to have to comment on the many failings of the Boys in Green he witnessed at the Aviva Stadium.

Didi’s contributions were drowned out somewhat by the debate being had by Giles, Dunphy and Brady in the studio, but he was back on Twitter this morning to offer some typically insightful views on what he had seen last night.

While hailing the performance of a German side he says is the best since the 1990 World Cup, Hamann also offered an opinion on the Irish team that will be met with nods of approval from disgruntled fans throughout the country this morning.

The former Liverpool player has been a firm advocate of Giovanni Trapattoni’s methods in the past so when even he says that the malaise within the current set-up is too glaring to miss; you know there’s something wrong.

You could say that things could only get better, but it’s hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel at the moment, it really is.
