Katie Taylor may yet prove to be Ireland’s Golden Girl in London, but sailor Annalise Murphy is making a great bid to beat her to glory.

We will level with you, we don’t know much about sailing. In fact, we’re not even that big a fan of boats, being a land-based website. But the excellence of Dubliner Annalise Muprhy demanded our attention.

The 22-year-old won the first two races in the Laser Radial class at Weymouth yesterday and she only went and did the same today, confirming her lead at the top of the standings.

There are still seven races to go, including the medal race, but the form that Murphy is in now, she has to be a strong contender to bring back some class of medal to these shores.

We, like a few others, wondered how Murphy was not only beating the world’s best, but also live tweeting her progress in each race. Was she using Tweetdeck, wondered one of the JOE Towers wise asses, with emphasis on the ‘deck’.

Irish comedian Dara O’Briain wondered the same, only to get the reply that explains it all.

Murphy has just under 2,500 followers now. We urge you to follow @Annalise_Murphy. It is emerging as the story of the Games for Ireland so far.
