Irish fans mightn’t want to hear the name Mario Mandžuki? so soon after he helped Croatia destroy us at the Euros, but it’s worth typing his name into Google Translate for a laugh.
Why anyone felt the need to put Mario Mandžuki?’s name into Google Translate we’re not exactly sure – it’s a name, not a phrase you’re going to use on holiday – but after seeing what transpires when you do, we’re glad that somebody went to the bother.
After seeing a tweet (see above) from the always excellent 101 Great Goals earlier this morning, we were prompted to try it for ourselves only to be met with disappointment when Mario Mandzukic translated into… Mario Mandzukic.
Thinking we had been had, we were going to leave it at that, but we eventually tried it again with the exact spelling of his name, diacritical marks (the name for symbols above letters, thanks Wikipedia) and all, and met with a more favourable result.
We’ve posted the picture of our result below, but if you don’t believe us, try it for yourself and see what happens.
Unless you’re possessed with the ability to type perfect Croatian, your best bet is to copy and paste the spelling from Google or from his Wikipedia page.
We’re not sure of the exact science behind this eerie coincidence – most likely, bored Google staff having a laugh – but if Jermain Defoe mysteriously turns up at Bayern Munich or Mandzukic at White Hart Lane next season, don’t be hugely surprised.
