They don’t call it the ‘dreaded vote of confidence’ for nothing. Mark Hughes was given it today by QPR owner Tony Fernandes, albeit in a less traditional way than usual.
Hughes is feeling the heat from QPR fans after a disastrous start to the Premier League season which has left them rooted to the bottom of the table with only two points from six games.
QPR’s position won’t come as a surprise to the many baffled by Hughes’ Football Manager like approach to the transfer market in the summer, as a host of big names arrived at the club although there seemed to be scant regard for how they might all actually fit into a team capable of making an impact in the top flight.
The fans anger didn’t dissipate following last night’s 2-1 home defeat to West Ham, a defeat which prompted Fernandes to issue a defence of Hughes on Twitter today.

Although it’s not a “vote of confidence” as such, Hughes should be concerned at his owner’s need to defend him so early in the season and it would appear as if he’ll be walking a tightrope unless results improve dramatically in the near future.
As for Fernandes’ tweet itself, was there really a need for the extra ‘Just Love it’ at the end? Very Kevin Keegan-like.
