As far as we were aware, unicorns were mythological figures that didn’t actually exist. Well they do in East Clare apparently.
Anyone in and around Tulla in the east of the county should keep their eyes peeled for what is described as a ‘large female (unicorn) with friendly disposition’ who was ‘last seen galloping in the Tulla area with native cattle’, as is described on this flyer spotted on a telegraph pole over the weekend.

The love of the owner – who has remained anonymous – for the unicorn is clearly evident, as they have also included a poem on the notice, although Father Ted fans will notice fairly quickly that it’s just a rip-off of ‘My Lovely Horse’ with the word ‘unicorn’ substituted for ‘horse’ where necessary.
Filming for Father Ted did occasionally take place in the county of course, so it remains to be seen whether the people behind the poster are looking to pull off a prank similar to the one instigated in the classic Chirpy Burpy Cheap Sheep episode, complete with the BBC Sound Effects record that Dougal noticed was missing from the local shop.
We’re not expecting there to be too many sightings of the mythological animal, but if you come across anything suspicious, feel free to leave a message on Twitter using the #unicornsanonymous hashtag.
In the meantime, why not relive this classic clip from the aforementioned Father Ted episode in the video below.
