The Mayor of Liverpool offered his support to London today as they prepare for the Olympic kick-off. Well, he sort of supported them.
Politicians and Twitter do not always work well together. The instant nature of the medium and the fact that everything you utter is easily shared means that any missteps will be quickly seized upon.
That fate befell Joe Anderson today. Anderson is Mayor of Liverpool and in the spirit of solidarity with London and their big day today he tweeted the following:
As you can imagine, the tweet has since been deleted but one of Anderson’s followers captured the tweet for posterity.
Anderson’s account has since tweeted his apologies, saying:
Anyway we think he, or whoever sent the original tweet, meant well.
