With the Olympics over we are all feeling a bit fed up today. This tweet won’t help that mood at all.

Before the Olympics began in London, various surveys showed that the people of Britain were not too interested in the Games. The unending torch relay and a fear of traffic chaos was part of the problem but the real reason for the undercurrent of unhappiness was the cost.

It is estimated that putting on the Olympics cost Britain about £9billion (€11.5b) and at a time when the government at Westminster were making cuts to all sorts, it was perceived as perhaps just a bit expensive.

But once the Games started, and the gold started to roll in, the entire place went Olympic crazy, all talk of the cost disappeared and the British public revelled in putting on a fantastic show.

But thanks to Conor Pope (@conor_pope) today, we have been given a stark reminder that the Games were expensive, but compared to what we have shelled out on in this country in recent years, it was a bit of a bargain.

Sorry to put you in a bad mood.
