The John Terry racism trial got under way in London earlier today and thanks to some football journalists on Twitter we’ve been given a blow by blow account.
Terry is accused of racially abusing Anton Ferdinand during a Premier League game between Chelsea and QPR last season.
And while the subject of racist abuse generally leaves no room for any snickering, we couldn’t help but laugh at a tweet from Times journalist Matt Dickinson which drew attention to one particular exchange:

Anton’s big brother Rio, controversially overlooked by Roy Hodgson for a late call-up to the England Euro 2012 squad last month, later sat on the fence with this tweet:

All of which proves that Hodgson clearly made the right decision in picking someone, anyone else ahead of Ferdinand after Gary Cahill’s injury, as the possibility of a Terry-Ferdinand centre half pairing would clearly have been far too explosive.
Whether Hodgson was right in keeping Terry in the squad in the first place is, of course, another matter entirely…
