We’re not really sure what they’re going for here.
There are plenty of subtleties and nuances about how people communicate via text these days, but one of the more widely known tricks of text messaging is to essentially explain that you are flirting by adding a winky face to the end of your message.
If you don’t believe us, add a winky face onto the end of a seemingly innocent message and tell us if it doesn’t change the tone.
With that in mind, we aren’t entirely sure if the Gardaí know what they’re doing here.

Even if that little winking face isn’t flirty, we’re not sure winking is the appropriate way to express that somebody has been arrested for stealing a car and will appear in court tomorrow. We feel like that’s more of a “:/” kind of moment.
