Very sad news.
Two people have died in separate road traffic collisions in Ireland overnight.
Gardaí in Limerick are investigating the death of a 76-year-old man following a hit-and-run in Ballingarry on Sunday night.
The incident happened around 11pm on Sunday at Rylands, on the R518. The man was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene.
His body was removed to the mortuary at Limerick University Hospital where a post-mortem will take place.
The road is currently closed to facilitate a forensic collision examination and local diversions are in place.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone who was in the area around 11pm to contact them on 069 20650, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
In a separate incident in Drogheda, a woman was fatally injured when she was involved in a collision with another vehicle on the M1 between Junction 10 and 11.
The incident occurred around 1.20am on Monday morning and the woman was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.
The driver of the other vehicle was uninjured but brought to hospital as a precaution.
An examination is currently being carried out by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and diversions are in place.
