At least 12 people are believed to have died after a plane crashed in the Taiwanese capital of Taipei this morning.

According to BBC News, early reports suggest that 12 out of the 58 passengers on board the TransAsia Airways flight lost their lives after the plane clipped a bridge and plunged into the Keelung river.

A number of other passengers on board are believed to have sustained injuries resulting from the crash.

Rescue teams came to the aid of those trapped inside the aircraft, but it is believed that up to 30 people have yet to be accounted for.

Footage of the crash was captured in the distance by passing motorists, which shows the plane turned on its side and plummeting towards the surface.
