This is unbelievably tense to watch at times, but thankfully it all worked out alright in the end.
The man in question was forced out the window of a fifth-floor apartment in Manhattan that he had been working in when it became engulfed in flames and thick black smoke that was spewing out the window in quick and heavy bursts.
Thankfully, some quick thinking workers in the adjacent building became aware of his plight and one of them, Roscindo Lopez, who was formerly a police officer in Mexico, was able to launch a ladder across on to the windowsill of the apartment beneath, enabling one of his colleagues to help out the man in distress.
Had the rescuers not been there or had they not acted as quickly, there could have been a tragic ending for the guy trying to escape the apartment, who went to hospital to be treated for minor injuries while the heroes of the hour, who had no association with the man they rescued, went back to work.
See, there are still plenty of good guys out there.
Hat-tip to Stephen O’Connor for sending this one our way
