VIDEO: Soldiers, military jets and tanks have been deployed in Turkey in apparent military coup

Carl Kinsella

Reports emerging from Turkey this evening suggest that the army has taken to the streets and is ordering Turkish citizens to “go home” under a curfew.

Two bridges have been closed by military police in the city of Istanbul, with military jets, helicopters and tanks roaming the area.

It has also been confirmed that social media sites Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Vimeo and YouTube have all been blocked in Turkey, limiting the information supply both in and out of the country.

Commentators on Twitter are speculating that this may either be a military coup, or preparation for an expected terrorist attack.

A statement from Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim seems to confirm that certain parts of Turkey’s military are indeed trying to overthrow the government.
