A kilometre long and up to eight metres deep, the cause of this massive crack is being investigated by the authorities in Mexico.

Footage has appeared on online today of a kilometre long crack that appeared last week in northwest Mexico.

Up to five metres wide in some places, the crack also went through a major road, forcing those in the area to find others ways to get around.
Geologists are looking into the reasons behind it, with a minor earthquake or an underwater river causing the soil above to collapse being two of the possibilities.
