Carl Kinsella

She was born in the nineteenth century.

Susanna Mushatt Jones, the world’s oldest known person, has passed away in a nursing home in Brooklyn at the age of 116.

Jones was born in Montgomery, Alabama – a city famous for its bus boycott during the American civil rights movement.

She was one of eleven siblings, and attended a school for black girls in a time when much of America was still deeply segregated along racial lines.

According to the Irish Times, Jones’ family members have credited her long life to love of family and generosity to others.
