Some will say that there’s only one and there will only ever be one Colm Cooper as far as the GAA is concerned, but RTE’s Des Cahill pointed out potential evidence to the contrary this morning.
Just like no GAA player plays football like Colm Cooper in the modern era, no GAA player really looks like the Kerry genius in the modern era either, but, although nobody would have known it at the time, it appears as he if had quite the doppelganger from within the GAA in the 1960s.
Des Cahill sent out the following tweet this morning and if you look at the man third from right in the front row, you’ll see that he bears a fairly decent resemblance to probably the greatest player of modern times.
Did Gooch play for #Dublin in 1965? Is that not Colm Cooper 3rd from right in front? #Kerry #GAA pic.twitter.com/DwESHbClk9

A little bit of research informs us that the picture was taken prior to the 1965 National League semi-final and that the man in question is Gerry Davey, who was part of the Dublin All-Ireland winning side of 1963, but surely a comparison to the Gooch exceeds even an All-Ireland medal in terms of honours in the GAA.
Great spot Des!
