Dublin beat Kilkenny at Parnell Park on Saturday night to secure their second win of the Allianz NHL campaign, triumphing 1-22 to 3-13 against Brian Cody’s side.
The Dubs started impeccably, storming into a 10-point lead in the first half, and went into the break a full 1-16 to 1-06 in front.
John Power had scored the first goal of the game for the Cats but they had no match for Dublin’s firepower, with Danny Sutcliffe, Colm Cronin, Conal Keaney and particularly Alan McCrabbe in fine form.
Sutcliffe’s goal for Anthony Daly’s men came three minutes from the interval.
The arrears were reduced to seven when Colin Fennelly scored Kilkenny’s second goal of the game early in the second half, while TJ Reid blasted home a penalty following a foul on Jonjo Farrell by Jack Doughan.
After 43 minutes there was just one goal between the sides, 1-16 to 3-07, with the sides going point for point through a McCrabbe double and efforts from Cillian Buckley and Richie Hogan for Kilkenny.
It was 1-18 to 3-09 with 15 minutes remaining. Mark Schutte and Ryan O’Dwyer helped to open up a six-point gap but Padraig Walsh and Power again made it a nervy finish for the home team.
