The Cats triumphed by the odd point in 61 after more than 90 minutes of action in Thurles.

A truly remarkable National Hurling League Division 1A final was edged by Kilkenny as they beat Tipperary 2-25 to 1-27 at Semple Stadium on Sunday.

TJ Reid delivered the knock-out punch to Tipp after a gruelling 90 minutes, with the sides needing extra-time to separate them.

With the game heading for a replay, Reid worked a short sideline cut with Richie Hogan before firing over the bar and into the history books – it was the first time in the history of Kilkenny hurling that the Cats had sealed three successive league titles.

Reid’s personal tally stood at a phenomenal 2-11 for the game as Kilkenny completed the perfect preparation for their upcoming Championship campaign.
