He had a good night then
The margins between Ireland and France were quite small yesterday as the boys in green were left tasting champagne (although we’re certain Joe Schmidt swiped those metaphorical bottles straight away from the players) while France had to drown their sorrows.
We imagine that it would take a fair amount of drink to wear out the French centre, Mathieu ‘The Mountain’ Bastareaud, but it looks like the Toulon player gave it his best shot when he was out on the tiles in Dublin last night.
Rugby players are only human and are fully entitled to blow off some steam after a hard-fought match but those pesky camera phones are everywhere these days.
Maybe Bastareaud was just resting his eyes here, tired from a draining game or in need of a moment to recover from that collision with Sexton but this photo is probably more the result of;
9 bottles of red wine, four pints of Guinness, 3 shots of Jaeger, 2 vodkas and cokes and probably a tranquilliser dart fired from a very long range.
All this probably still wouldn’t even floor him though, jaysus he’s gigantic.

At least the powerful centre is drinking in a controlled team environment as opposed to that ill-fated trip in New Zealand a few years ago.
