It was not pretty.
Ireland have been well beaten by Belgium in their second game of Euro 2016, going down 3-0 in Bordeaux.
It was scoreless at half-time, but the Belgians quickly exposed the Boys in Green in the second half, with Romelu Lukaku scoring in the opening stages, before Axel Witsel doubled their advantage.
Lukaku completed his brace in the 70th minute, with Belgium cruising to victory.
Although the referee did not help the Irish cause (Shane Long had a serious call for a penalty just before the first goal), Ireland were easily defeated.
Here’s the strongest reaction to a very bad day at the office.
Not a penalty in the delusional world of that ref. Being outclassed admittedly but shocking decision. #IRLBEL pic.twitter.com/0IBQprITwf

Ciaran Clark of Aston Villa. If the own goal v Sweden was unlucky that dive in was unforgivable. #IRLBEL

Penalty or no penalty. Referee should have stopped play for head injury. Disgrace. #IRL #IRLBEL

Not that it matters now but if Long had been given the penalty and we'd gone 1-0 up…#COYBIG

Right, on to Italy with nothing but a win required. That's a huge ask, but given the Italians have nothing to play for, who knows. #COYBIG
