They’re in the final…
It truly is the year of the underdog as Ireland u20s have reached the World Rugby u20 Championship final.
Placed in a group with Grand Slam champions Wales and holders New Zealand, nobody gave the Irish much of a chance of progressing.
However, after beating the two heavyweights in the group, as well as Georgia, Ireland have followed it up with another stunning win over Argentina in the semi-final this evening.
The wolfpuppies had a commanding 21-7 lead at half time thanks to two tries from Jacob Stockdale and a wonderful 60 metre effort from Max Deegan.
Johnny McPhillips’ unerring accuracy from the tee in the second half helped to steer Ireland to a 37-7 win and booked their place in their first ever World Rugby u20 Final.
What a performance from the young men who will face the winners of England and South Africa who face off later today.
There was some trepidation early on…
Any other weekend and a 21-0 lead is a dead cert win #WorldRugbyU20s

A lot of people were very impressed with Max Deegan.
Stockdale, Deegan and McBurney causing havoc anytime they get the ball with space or on the run #wolfpuppies #worldrugbyu20s

The defence for the #Wolfpuppies has been immense so far, Argentina can't penetrate it at all ☘#WorldRugbyU20s #rugbyunited #FutureIsGreen

Great to see any Irish scrum so dominant #WorldRugbyU20s

Ireland's footwork before contact is great. Very hard for Argentina to make dominant hits #WorldRugbyU20s

the team pitching for Rugby World Cup Ireland 2023 must be delighted to see this crop of young players coming through

Ireland totally dominant against an incredibly indisciplined Argentina. Nigel Carolan has done a superb job with this squad. #WorldRugbyU20s

Some win for the Ireland U20s, light at the end of a very dark Irish sporting weekend tunnel.. Great achievement.. #WorldRugbyU20s #COYBIG
