03/08 The End of the Day

Home time. Time to watch Nicolas 'Ghost Rider' Cage actually win himself an Oscar, and watch Hollywood ruin our childhood memories with Yogi Bear 3D.

JOE

Pic of the Day (above)

A tourist in a Bill Clinton mask waves to the crowd as he drives through the town of Rhinebeck, New York as crowds started to gather on the day of Chelsea Clinton’s multimillion-dollar wedding over the weekend. Chelsea married her long-time partner, financier Marc Mezvinsky.

Mood Swingometer

Today JOE has been feeling…run-down.

Bank holiday weekends, eh? Sometimes they can feel so long that you arrive back at work, sit down and your desk and stare bewildered at your workload – what’s your password again? When do those reports have to be filed? Today JOE lived up a little too hard over the weekend and is severely paying for it today. Ah well – at least it’s not a five-day week. Every time we enjoy a good long weekend though, it’s tough not to envy our 35-hour working week, strike-loving Gallic friends.

Tonight’s Telly

Pick of the night: The Inbetweeners, Channel 4, 11:10pm.

No, don’t get too excited – it’s not season three yet, but we’re always partial to revisit Channel 4’s award-winning comedy series at any time. Tonight posh Will is unhappy about being forced by to take a work experience job at a garage due to a mix-up that sees dim Neil joining a newspaper.

Movie pick: Leaving Las Vegas, ITV2 11:05pm

Nicolas Cage, an Oscar winner? Yes, believe it or not, before he grew a balding mullet in Con Air or starred in that blood awful Ghost Rider movie, Cage was known as a well-respected performer, not a bankrupt, will-do-anything for cash over-actor. Cage’s performance in the 1995 drama Leaving Las Vegas earned him a well-deserved Oscar for Best Actor and is well worth a watch tonight. The star portrays an alcoholic screenwriter who arrives in Las Vegas to drink himself to death.

Despair for Yogi Bear

Yogi Bear, beloved cartoon character and a childhood mainstay, has been given the most unlikely of tributes – his own CGI Hollywood adventure. Having plumbed the depths of our childhood to produce their own execrable version of Scooby-Doo, Garfield, and even Alvin and the Chipmunks, Hollywood bigwigs have now got their greedy mitts on our favourite childhood bear. Their solution? Justin Timberlake and Dan Ackroyd onboard as the voice cast. Yogi Bear 3D is part of our regular Trailer Park feature which you can find here.
